In the world of the internet, websites can easily be divided into two different categories: static and dynamic. As the name suggests, static websites are websites that do not contain regularly updated information. Often, the content found on these pages remains unchanged for many months. For companies that do not provide regular information (for instance, a site designed to provide information on a seminar) a static site might be sufficient. However, many companies often update the information found on their sites. These websites are known as “dynamic websites.”There are many advantages to owning a dynamic website. One of these is that the interests of web surfers are far more likely to be engaged if fresh and recent content is provided. Another is that search engines such as Google tend to rank sites with updated content much higher.
Companies and businesses that own websites requiring regular updating of information on their sites are not always able to afford a professional site designer or manager. Fortunately, cost-efficient methods exist to address this need. A web content management system, or CMS, is a type of software that allows online content providers the freedom to manage their own sites.
With a web content management system, the contents of a website can be managed and updated with just a click of the mouse. This ease of use negates the need for technical expertise that operating a website once required. Once a website has been designed with a CMS, the owner of the website can easily manage the look and content of the site with the use of tools provided by the web content management system.
Content management systems are the obvious future. A Web content management system removes the need for constant updates of a site’s html code. Instead, the CMS software does this for the user, making updates a much simpler and more straightforward task. Users do not require a computer degree before they are able to make changes in the content or design of their sites. A simple click of the mouse adds the details, and the website is now as dynamic as the business it represents.
